TYLER BARTLESON

SOFTWARE ENGINEER

ABOUT ME

AS A STUDENT

My name is Tyler (Ty) Bartleson and I recently graduated from Iowa State University in May 2020. I have received my Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Software Engineering. Throughout my time at ISU I had been a part of a few different groups and organizations such as the Software Engineering Learning Community, the Computer Science and Software Engineering Club, the Game Development Club, and the University Honors Program.

AS A PERSON

Outside of my academic and professional interests I also enjoy many hobbies and activities. Some of these include a passion for video games, board games, and movies as well as some outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and camping. I also know how to play the violin, am very competitive, and love experiencing new things.

AS A SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

The first time I learned how to code I was a senior in high school when I was a part of the school's first ever Computer Science course. I quickly became passionate about it and knew that it is what I wanted to pursue for a career. Since then, I have coded many different types of software and projects such as video games, websites, and both mobile and web applications. My first professional coding experience was after my freshman year at ISU when I worked for the summer as a Software Engineering Intern at Innovative Software Engineering. Throughout this internship I worked with the two other interns on multiple coding projects and even taught a moblie app coding camp for high schoolers interested in a software development career.

Cow Chips 4 Charity

August 2019 - May 2020

As part of our Senior Design course at ISU we have been professionally tasked by a client to create this project. I personally am the Game Team Leaderfor our team, in charge of making sure the game portion of the project gets completed successfully.

Cow Chips 4 Charity is a web-based game with the purpose of fundraising for the Boo Radley Foundation - an organization dedicated to promoting and raising money for medical research into diseases that affect both humans and our companion animals. The game is a variation of Bingo and will be hosted on a website that my team redesigned. We also are creating backend data analytics for admin users to be able to see statistics about the various games played and donations received.

WITWAY
(Where In The World Are You)

August - December 2018

This application was created by myself and three other students for a computer science class. At the end of the semester our group received an Honorable Mention meaning we were in the top 10 best projects out of the 50 total groups.

WITWAY is an Android mobile application created for travellers as an easy way to plan a trip. The user would select their desired location and interests and WITWAY would generate a list of venues and activities that fit their selections for them or their group that they can create in the app. WITWAY can also show the routes to the places in the user's schedule and allows them to rate the places they have gone.

Util3D

January - May 2018

I created this application along with a team of seven other students for a computer science class. At the end of the semester our project was voted 3rd out of 11 teams by our classmates, TAs, and professors.

Util3D is an Android application designed to assist field technicians in the process of mapping utility lines (water, gas, electric, sewage, etc.). Through interaction with Google Maps, users can create “projects” in order to plan out new utility lines or view/edit existing utility lines. By creating these utility line projects, field technicians can essentially create a massive collaborative archive for maintenance purposes.
